6th grade Geography: S PAIN (AGV)

We are going to learn about where we live!!!! 


Spain is part of Europe and it is located in the Northern Hemisphere


Madrid is the capital city of Spain. 
To the north, Spain shares a border with France and Andorra.
Portugal borders Spain to the west
Gibraltar lies to the south.

We find the Mediterranean Sea (Mar Mediterráneo) on The Eastern coast.
The Sea of Cantabria (Mar Cantábrico) is found on the northern coast (Bay of Biscay).
The Atlantic Ocean (Océano Atlántico) is found on the southwest coast.


There are 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities, Ceuta and Melilla, located in the African continent.


The Canarias Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean and the Baleares Islands are located in the Mediterranean Sea.

Each autonomous community has its own capital. Castilla y león is the exception.

Each of the autonomous communities has at least one province.

The constitution of 1978 provides the communities with some powers of self-government as healthcare, education, regional tourism, and town planning.

Now we are going to focus on the most important rivers. 
Many rivers are formed in mountains and travel toward the sea. A river is formed by the rainwater and melted snow from the mountains.


These are the most important rivers in Spain.

Each continent is made up of many different landforms. 

Mountains are large, rocky areas of land. 

A group of mountains is called mountain range.



Did you know that? 
The only desert in Europe is in Almeria, in the south-east of Spain. It is called Desierto de Tabernas.
There are over 7000 kilometers of coast in Spain.
Spain has a volcano called El Teide.
The highest mountain in the Península Ibérica is el Mulhacén in Granada, Sierra Nevada.
